Yellow Door Theatre Project has received funding from the Goettler Family Foundation to build on the popularity and success of Red Letter Day, and launch a Film Training Stream (Screen) entitled the Goettler Family Foundation Film Academy, and run parallel to our Theatre Stream (Stage) by educating students ages 13 to 17 in live film with curriculum and specialized workshops by film industry professionals.
The film and video industry entertains, challenges, impacts our understanding of current events, heightens our awareness of social issues, and even influences our buying decisions. Today’s youth understand intrinsically that a knowledge of the fundamentals of film and video production.
From scriptwriting and directing to filming and editing will allow them to participate in life through a medium that has kept them engaged in the world they are a part of. It is in fact, a part of their daily life, and they understand that there is value and power in learning to use it.
This new Yellow Door Theatre Project film stream is the first of Its kind in the Niagara Region!

The new Goettler Family Foundation Film Academy will meet the demands of digital age communication and allow expanded reach through public viewings in:
A professional movie theatre setting
Further showings in high schools & community centres
Various film festivals
The Goettler Family Foundation Film Academy will:
Encourage creativity
Build confidence
Foster cultural awareness
Develop new skills
Nurture a sense of accomplishment
Make a significant impact on the teen population in the Niagara Region by giving a voice to their thoughts and feelings through creative expression in film
The Program.
The initial implementation of the Goettler Family Foundation Film Academy will be a 25 week program over two terms; September-December (10 weeks) and January-May (15 weeks). The inaugural year will be exciting with many firsts, projects and people contributing to its success.
Classes in the new Goettler Family Foundation Film Academy will begin in September 2023 with foundational skills and technique training. and continue through to May 2024.
All classes offered Fridays 7 to 8:30 pm at the Virgil Studio 502 Line 2.
Term 1 Classes:
September 8th to November 17th, 2023 (10 weeks)
Program Roll-out as per designed curriculum.
December 2023, final presentations at the studio
Term 2 Classes:
January 12th to May 10th, 2024 (15 weeks)
Continued skills development as per curriculum; development and implementation of final project ideas.
Complete Post- Editing of Films and schedule local viewing & opportunities for wider audience (Film festivals, High schools, Online platforms)

February 16th to 19th - Family Day Weekend
March 11th to 17th - March Break
