As a Niagara-grown theatre project, our passion is to create an experience for life through theatre and production, providing life perspective and a genuine commitment to growing and developing the children and youth of Niagara.
Announcing Our 2019 Season
Our upcoming season includes some exciting surprises! Yellow Door is growing at a rapid rate, and we’re reaching more kids across the region each year. We’ve had to adapt our offerings to reflect this growth, and keep challenging our young performers.
This year, our vastly popular musical theatre summer camp will be on offer for two two-week sessions (July 8-19 and August 5-16). Participants from ages 8 to 16 will develop singing, dancing, and acting skills and will collaborate on a production staged in a workshop performance at the end of the camp. This year’s musical is Disney’s Aladdin Jr.
Our highly anticipated Winter Production at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre will consist of not one but two musicals in December of this year.
Going Under (BOOK BY MATT MURRAY, MUSIC AND LYRICS BY COLLEEN DAUNCEY & AKIVA ROMER-SEGAL) an original Canadian musical will be performed by the Teen Performance Company December 4th to 7th, 2019. This contemporary musical explores urban life through a group of strangers on their morning commute. When the subway train they are all riding comes to a screeching halt, so do the complicated lives of the passengers.
Bremen Rock City (BOOK BY SARAH FARB, MUSIC AND LYRICS BY COLLEEN DAUNCEY & AKIVA ROMER-SEGAL) will be performed by the Junior Company (ages 10 to 13) from December 12th to 15th, 2019. Ideal for families, and loosely based on a Brothers Grimm fairy tale, Bremen Rock City (another Canadian musical) follows the story of Jack, a guitar-shredding donkey, who escapes from his boring life on the farm to pursue his dream of becoming a rock star like his idol Spike.

Rotary Club of NOTL
At their meeting on Tuesday, members of the Rotary Club of Niagara-on-the-Lake were treated to a special performance by Yellow Door Theatre Project youth and teen company members.
The Rotary Club recently confirmed its sponsorship of the Dress Rehearsals for the 2019 Yellow Door fall productions of Going Under (teen company) and Bremen Rock City (youth company) being presented at the First Ontario Performing Arts Centre in December. To show their appreciation, 5 young performers who receive training at Yellow Door provided a singing showcase under the tutelage of Artistic Director, Andorlie Hillstrom.
“The Niagara on the Lake Rotary Club was blown away by the level of talent on display. You could see the confidence emanating from these talented kids because of the opportunities given to them by Yellow Door Theatre Project. We are proud to be supporting such a wonderful charitable organization.”

Said Yellow Door Artistic Director, Andorlie Hillstrom, “Yellow Door Theatre Project is so grateful for the support and generosity of organizations like the Rotary Club! This will help us move forward with plans for our Fall Productions.”
The celebration was capped off with an official cheque presentation for $2,000.00.

Announcing Our New Full Year Musical Theatre & Dance Program
We are excited to announce that the youth theatre company will be offering recreational Musical Theatre (ages 3 to 13 years) and Introductory Jazz, Tap and Ballet Dance classes (ages 13 and up) from September 2019 to June 2020!
These weekly musical theatre and dance classes will provide an introduction to the world of musical theatre!
Children registered in the Musical Theatre classes will begin to explore singing, dancing and acting to excerpts from age appropriate musicals. Our professional and experienced instructors will support the children through the creative process and develop their confidence and connection to one another.
Youth registered in Dance classes will work to improve technique, stamina, and flexibility. Emphasis is on Musical Theatre dance vocabulary. These classes will teach the basic dance skills necessary for musical theatre auditions for community theatre, professional theatre and college auditions.
These programs will run all year, from September to June, and culminate in a final showcase performance, with costumes and an audience!
There will also be an Open House offered to families at the completion of each of the three terms (Fall, Winter, & Spring).
“I am excited to finally be able to offer musical theatre programming on a year round basis. The demand for this type of program is growing steadily in the Niagara Region!”
Andorlie Hillstrom, Artistic Director
In-Person Registration is scheduled for August 29th, from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Yellow Door rehearsal space located at 504, Line 2, Virgil. Registration and info are also available on this site.
