Letter From the Founder & Artistic Producer

In these unprecedented times, Yellow Door Theatre Project believes that it is prudent to respect all health and safety guidance of the provincial and federal government and have decided to cancel all classes on-site and public events and performances.

We are anxious to return to regular programming as soon as it is safe for our participants and instructors to return to our beautiful space in Virgil.

In the interim, Yellow Door Theatre Project has created and is providing a combination of socially responsible, online programming and in-studio classes that adhere to and follow health and safety regulations. This includes dance instruction, musical theatre and monologue and scene study classes, high calibre workshops and live-streamed performances.

We look so forward to the day when we are able to safely welcome you back to the Studio on a full-time basis!

Best Regards,

Andorlie Hillstrom

Yellow Door Theatre Project Continues to Successfully Navigate Covid 19

The idea that there is a connection between the performing arts and the psychosocial is not new. Arts participation in childhood and youth has been linked to positive academic, social, and emotional outcomes later in life. Since March 2020, the opportunity to participate in performing arts opportunities has become impeded and our children have lived through the isolation of lockdown. There can be little doubt now of the importance and responsibility that Yellow Door and other performance arts organizations carry to provide this outlet and support to our children. It helps heal, soothe, invite thought about different issues, entertain, and to provide community. It was vital that we rose to the challenges of COVID-19.

We have come a long way. We learned new skills and found innovative ways to adapt and survive during the pandemic. We purchased new equipment and systems, learned new skills such as video and sound editing, and made physical modifications to indoor spaces to allow for social distancing. Our children learned to rehearse and train in their living rooms, bedrooms, basements, and garages. They were committed and engaged.

Accomplishments 2020/2021

  • Online dance instruction

  • Online summer camp

  • Online rehearsals when required by health and safety protocol

  • Zoomsical, The Big 10 performed online for the public in August

  • Hansel and Gretel - first performance on-line

  • Dear-Edwina online edition

  • Summer camp Disney's The Little Mermaid JR – Online voice lessons in June and in person rehearsals beginning July 5th following Ontario’s Stage 2 Covid protocols.

  • Yellow Doors first film entitled Red Letter Day. Auditioned entirely online. Written, rehearsed, and filmed on location in Niagara on the Lake.  Composed by Scott Christian and written by Lezlie Wade.

  • ReCreational Classes starting in September with reduced class sizes and the ability to switch to on-line as required by Ontario’s reopen plan.

    • Junior 1 Musical Theatre Ages 5 – 14

    • Monologue and Scene Study Ages 10 to 14

  • Hansel and Gretel – Final Performance schedule to be performed at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre live or live stream.

The arts industry appears determined to bounce back. Like many other sectors, it has been forced to adapt in order to survive. Yellow Door Theatre Project will bring its new skills into the post pandemic world, and we are looking forward to it!

'Red Letter Day': A Yellow Door Film Production

For the past six years, our young actors have put on many stage performances, but this summer we are producing our first musical film, called "Red Letter Day".

Read the entire feature article on Niagara Now.

Thanks in large part to the generous funding provided by the Lauren and Vaughn Goettler Family Foundation, Red Letter Day production is currently underway.

Check out this article in the Niagara-on-the-Lake Local highlighting the RLD production as well as the other fun and exciting things going on at Yellow Door this summer and fall!

On June 25th, 2020, Yellow Door Theatre Project performers took part in the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre’s online series featuring free live concerts from Niagara musicians every Sunday and content from community partners every Thursday.
