Letter From the Founder & Artistic Producer

In these unprecedented times, Yellow Door Theatre Project believes that it is prudent to respect all health and safety guidance of the provincial and federal government and have decided to cancel all classes on-site and public events and performances.

We are anxious to return to regular programming as soon as it is safe for our participants and instructors to return to our beautiful space in Virgil.

In the interim, Yellow Door Theatre Project has created and is providing a combination of socially responsible, online programming and in-studio classes that adhere to and follow health and safety regulations. This includes dance instruction, musical theatre and monologue and scene study classes, high calibre workshops and live-streamed performances.

We look so forward to the day when we are able to safely welcome you back to the Studio on a full-time basis!

Best Regards,

Andorlie Hillstrom

Letter from the Board of Directors

How Yellow Door Theatre Project is Successfully Navigating Covid 19

Covid 19 has brought many challenges to us all but perhaps the industry that has been affected most is the performing arts community. It is confronting some harsh challenges; cancelled and postponed events, maintaining premises, and a dramatic drop in revenues to name a few.  Many performing arts organizations have been forced to close their doors for good.  Those that persevere struggle financially and public health guidelines present their own challenges to performers.

As a Niagara-grown theatre project, our passion is to create an experience for life through theatre and production, providing life perspective and a genuine commitment to growing and developing the children and youth of Niagara.

Despite the many challenges that we face, Yellow Door continues to support our young performers in the face of this pandemic.

Every year, we put on a main fall production, a spring teen production, a children's summer camp, and musical theatre dance classes. We strive to make our productions as professional an experience as possible for the kids, employing professional stage managers, directors, choreographers, actors, etc.

To adapt to COVID-19, we have developed several exciting opportunities.  We have moved to online dance instruction, are in the process of putting together a 'zoomsical,' that will be performed online for the public in July and August, we have moved our summer camp online, and are providing professional online workshops covering subjects such as audition self-taping and writing for the theatre, presented by well known Canadian talents such as Kerry Ann Doherty, Thom Marriott,  Lezlie Wade and Scott Christian, to name a few.

We have been absolutely dedicated to continuing excellent instruction for our students in a safe way in accordance with public health guidelines. The safety of our kids is and always has been one of our top priorities, and it is especially important to us now.

Our Recreational Musical Theatre & Dance Program continues into 2020-21!

I am excited to announce that Yellow Door Theatre Project will be continuing to offer Online classes in combination with In-Studio Classes as part of our Recreational Musical Theatre (ages 9-14) and Introductory Jazz, Tap and Ballet Dance (ages 10-18) program throughout the 2020-2021 Season!

These weekly musical theatre and dance classes will provide an introduction to the world of musical theatre!

Children registered in the Musical Theatre classes will begin to explore singing, dancing and acting to excerpts from age appropriate musicals. Our professional and experienced instructors will support the children through the creative process and develop their confidence and connection to one another.

Youth registered in Dance classes will work to improve technique, stamina, and flexibility. Emphasis is on Musical Theatre dance vocabulary. These classes will teach the basic dance skills necessary for musical theatre auditions for community theatre, professional theatre and college auditions.

The 2020-2021 Season runs from September 8th, 2020 to May 29th, 2021 and all classes will end with either in-class or online presentation.

“I am excited to be able to offer musical theatre programming on a year round basis and so very pleased to finally be returning to In-Studio classes! The demand for this type of program is continuing to grow steadily in the Niagara Region!”
