Musical Theatre

Our weekly musical theatre programs for children ages 3-14, introduce and expand upon the various elements of musical theatre including drama, ensemble music and dance.

Pre-School Music & Movement (In-Studio)

30 minutes, Ages 3-5

This 30 minute  long, weekly class will be an introduction to the world of music and movement! Classes will involve drama games, ensemble music and beginner dance. Dancing itself is a great way for little ones to stay active and fit. It will improve their flexibility, poise, fluidity of movement and grace as well as aid in their coordination, balance and stamina. Dance movement teaches the children a way of engaging their bodies and minds by using creative imagery, improvisation and free dance. This class will build their self confidence, will teach them a different way of expressing themselves as well as build team work and social skills.

 

The children will begin to explore singing along with, dancing and acting to favourite songs from age appropriate music selections. Our professional and experienced instructors will support the children through the creative process and develop their confidence and connection to one another.

Saturdays

9:00am - 9:30am

Junior 1 Musical Theatre (In-Studio)

30 minutes, Ages 6-8

This 30 minute long, weekly class will be an introduction to the world of musical theatre! Classes will involve drama games, ensemble music and beginner dance.

 

The children will begin to explore singing, dancing and acting to excerpts from age appropriate musicals. Our professional and experienced instructors will support the children through the creative process and develop their confidence and connection to one another. 

Wednesdays

6:30pm - 7:00pm

Junior Music Theatre (In-Studio)

45 minutes, Ages 9-11

This forty-five minute, weekly class will provide an introduction to the world of musical theatre! Classes will involve drama games, ensemble music and beginner dance.

 

The children will begin to explore singing, dancing and acting to excerpts from age appropriate musicals. Our professional and experienced instructors will support the children through the creative process and develop their confidence and connection to one another.

Saturdays

11:00am - 11:45am

Intermediate Music Theatre (In-Studio)

30 minutes, Ages 12-14

This thirty minute long, weekly class will be an integration of drama games, ensemble music and musical theatre dance and will explore excerpts from age appropriate musicals. Our professional and experienced instructors will support the students through the creative process and develop their confidence and connection to one another.

Wednesdays

5:30pm to 6:00pm

Monologue and Scene Study (In-Studio)

45 minutes, Ages 11-16

Learn tools used by theatre professionals to warm up, prepare audition pieces (monologues and scenes) and be ready for your first day in the rehearsal hall! This will be a fun and enlightening experience.

10:00am - 10:45am

You will need access the Zoom for online classes.

 

All programs run from September 8th to May 27th, and culminate in a final in-class or online showcase performance for families.

Dance

We offer three weekly introductory dance programs for children ages 10 to 12 and 13 & Up. Ballet, Tap, and Jazz. No previous experience is necessary!

Ballet - Recreation - Level 1 (In-Studio)

30 minutes, Ages 10-12

Ballet is a classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement and is considered the foundation of all dance.

 

This Introductory ballet class will emphasize Balle Barre and Centre Floor exercises. This class will teach basic ballet dance skills.

5:30pm - 6:00pm

The rhythm and movement of Tap, created by the metal taps on the heels and toes of a dancer’s shoes, transforms the dancer into a percussive musician.

 

This Tap Class is an Introduction to this dynamic dance discipline where students will learn rhythm, style and musicality through percussive footwork. Students will learn technique, terminology, and various styles of tap. Tap was initially popularized in Hollywood by such great dancers as Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and Shirley Temple and more recently, by the hugely popular performers Tap Dogs, Stomp and Riverdance.

 

This class will teach basic tap dance skills.

 

You must have access to Zoom for all online classes.

4:30pm - 5:00pm

Jazz - Recreation - Level 1 (In-Studio and Online)

30 minutes, Ages 10-12

Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. Jazz also has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accents of musical rhythms. Jazz dance can take on many different characteristics and styles, including Street Jazz, Percussive, Broadway, Contemporary and Lyrical. Jazz classes can be patterned in any of these styles or a combination of them. Emphasis is on the importance of energy, rhythmical accuracy, and style.

 

This is an Introductory Jazz Class that combines stretching, aerobic exercise, strength, and upbeat movement to create fun, exciting routines. This lively class works to improve technique, stamina, and flexibility. Emphasis on Musical Theatre vocabulary.

 

This class will teach the basic jazz dance skills.

All 2020-2021 Seasonal programs run will culminate in a final in-studio or online showcase performance for families.

 

Yellow Door Theatre Project reserves the right to move ALL In Studio classes ONLINE if required by health and safety guidelines. These guidelines include a return to Phase Two and/or a Covid-19 Outbreak.
